A working sheep farm on the water's edge.
Your stay starts here.
Three generations of farming, two unique places to stay, and one of the most peaceful corners of East Gippsland. Wake up to a golden sunrise over the Gippsland Lakes and relax into a slice of country life on a real working farm.
Our Story
Hello and welcome.
For 25 years we’ve worked this sheep farm at Forge Creek, just outside Paynesville. We’re the third generation of Stringers on this land.
The Tank started as a decommissioned concrete water tank next to the shearing shed. The Wool House grew from a paddock with a view we’d always known was special.
Two very different stays. One working sheep farm. And yes, you will see sheep

What's at your doorstep.
Forge Creek sits between the farmland and the water, just minutes from Paynesville which is the boating capital of the Gippsland Lakes. Close to Raymond Island and koalas, Metung lunch spots, Lakes Entrance beaches, and the Mason’s Bay walk right from the property.
Paddock to Plate
From our paddock to your plate.
Every guest receives a complimentary Forge Creek Lamb pack on arrival. Our lamb is raised right here on the farm and sold at local farmers markets through our paddock-to-plate business, Forge Creek Lamb. Cook it on the Weber while the sun goes down. It doesn’t get more local than this.

The Tank was an absolute dream from the moment we arrived. Enjoying a fire under the stars, listening to nature and then waking up to the sunrise over the water, right from the one of the most comfortable bed. The kitchen was very well-equipped, and the bathroom was perfect – clean, modern and even a washing machine. We left feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated.
Highly recommend for anyone seeking a peaceful getaway!
